ENGINEERS IN CONFERENCE.
PALMERSTON PROVIDES THE PRESIDENT.

At Wellington yesterday the local government engineers of New Zealand lield iheir second annual conference, Mr S. Jickell, Asso. Inst. C.K. (borough of Palmereton North! presiding. Various matters of technical interest to tlie profession were dealt with. 3ml among other resolutions it was decided to oppose a clause in the proposed Architects Bill giving the regulation of bridges into the hands of architects.
The following officers were appointed:— President, S. Jickell; vice-presidents. S. A. R. Mair and R. S. Rounthwaite; council, W. J. Roche, \V. Ferguson, C. E. Bremncr, R. J. Dillon. A. Pctterson, F. Williams, E. J. Armstrong, F. Basham, K. Williams. C. Banks. G. Maginncss, A. 11. M. Wright. F. Shannon: treasurer, R. L. Harding; secretary. T. R. Wallace. In the afternoon several members read papers on subjects appertaining to engineering.
It was decided to urgo th<> Government to assist in securing representation of New Zealand at the International Conference of engineers to he held in London in June next, when among other subjects road construction and maintenance will !>'• Jlis < u*w I.
