Five hundred delegates of railwayman's organisations from all parts of Austria met and favoured a demand for a twenty per cent increaso, owing to the general rise in tho cost of living. Some speakers foreshadowed a general strike similar to Britain's. Finally a general meeting of employees decided to submit the demand to the Government without threats of a strike.
LONDON. Sept. 5.
Mr Thomas Burt, M.P., in a circular, addressod to the Northumberland miners, says ho feels that the North Eastern Railway Company was hardly treated in tho strike. Tho great initial mistake was in giving only a day's ultimatum, and not allowing timo for negotiations. PARIS, Sept. 5. Weavers on strike _at; Ilallium attacked a mill employing strike-breakers, several of whom wero severely injured. _ The Gendarmerie charged tho rioters, injuring a score.
