Mr Crooke, S.M., at Groymouth,, hae receivod notice of his transfer to Whangarci. . Princo Kropotkin, the famous, Russian exile, is seriously ill at Locarno, in Switzerland, says a cablo to-day. Mrs W. Cook leaves Palmerston tomorrow for a trip to Fiji, whoro she intends staying for a couplo of months. Mr H. M. Slowctt (Haro Hongi), who ia at present private secretary to the ActingPrimo Minister, will contest the Northern Maori seat. Lady Stout, wifo of New Zealand's Chief Justice, marched in tho big Suffragettes' procession-to Albert Hall on Saturday—Cabled item. The death is announced of an early colonist, Mr Joseph Earlc, of Wellington, father of Mr C. Eaiie, editor of tho Dominion, and Mr F. Earlc, assistant sub-editor <jf tho Evening Post. Mr P. Galvin, lately oditor of Ihe Mining Journal and now connected with the literary department of the Wellington Post, was on a brief visit to Palmerston to-day. Mr Galvin founded tho Ilawera Star "and Opunalce Courier. Mr Galvin was associated with Mr J. P. Leary in newspaper work in Palmerston in the early clays. Mr J. Hammond, the well-known aviator, who arrived in Foikling last wcok on a visit to his people, was brought into Nnrso Linton's hospital on Saturday night suffering from appendicitis. He was operated on bv Drs. Martin and Willis (Iteilding) yesterday morning. Upon enquiry to-dav wo learnt that Mr Hammond, though very ill, was doing as well a=. could be expected under the circumstances. The numerous friends, both, of the aviator and his well-known family, will be glad to hear of his speedy recovery,
