Juno 16, Tho Wanganui Harbour Hoard to-night, ' received from Leslie Reynolds, constating engineer, his report on the harbour sehomcs. Tho estimate provides for a depth at tho entrance of 24 feet or.,2s'feci/.at low water, equal to 32 or 33feet at high water, this depth to be obtained by an extension of tho moles. The estimate also provides for a. floating basin of 25 acres at Cnstleclift', dredged to a' depth of 30 feet below low water. The basin • is to bo enclosed by a wall, the total .area. of which provides for future developments;-.- \ being 38 acres. An up-to-dato dredge'is/ -:, also provided for. The total estimate for . this work is £IBB,IOO. The report also,- "■ deals with tho deepening of tho channel to a depth of 17 feet. Mr Reynolds was ulso asked to report on the. project of making a floating basin at the town-in';, ?. stead of at Castlcclifl', and his estimate is £417,470, which means that this scheme will not be considered any farther.. -■ Tho last Harbour Board election' was >■ fought on the rival schemes for creating a harbour at Cnslloclilf or n harbour at ■■ the town.
