(FKB I'HESR ASSOOIATION.) SYDNEY, March 24. Mrs Newell, wife of Andy Newell, the prominent cricketer, who disappeared some time ago, has been awarded £2OO damages against tho "Sun" newspaper for publishing an article purporting to be founded on a letter received by a friend from Newell, wherein it was stated ho wont away for reasons of a domestic character. Defendants wero granted a stay of proceedbigs. The Industrial Court fined the men in the Carcoar mines, who recently went on strike, £5 with half a guinea costs each, in dofault one month's hard labour. The Labour Council is enforcing the resolution'not to allow any reporters at its meetings, excepting members of the "Writers and Artists' Union, which is affiliated with the Council. Owing to slackness of trade large numbers of miners in tho Newcastle district are unemployed. Strong presHTB is being brought on the Government to provide relief work. .
