STOCK MARKET. JOHNSONVILLE.

JOHNSONVILLE, Oct. 19. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Johnsonvillc 6ale as follows: — We offered a good yarding of fine sheep and cattle, which sold readily at late rates. We quote :—Best bullocks £10 •2s 6d to £10 ss, medium bullocks £9 12s 6d to £9 15s, lighter £8 17s 6d to £9 ss, light £8 7s Gd, prime wethers 22s 4d to 255, prime heavy ewes 23s 7d, good ewes 20s to 21s, prime shorn ewes 15s 2d, extra prime lambs 15s 4d, prime lambs 14s to 14s 4d, lighter 12s 3d to 13s 3d. ADDINGTON. (Pee Press Association ) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 19. At the Aldington sale yards there was a fairly large yarding of stock and a good attendance. Fat cattle were firmer. Store sheep also showed improvement, but fat lambs were down 2s to 2s 6d per head in consequence of a large entry. Fat sheep showed practically no change in values. Pigs met with a good demand for all classes. There were only 1200 store sheep yarded, about one half being There was an improved demand and prices firmed about 6d per head. Woolly wethers made 17s 4d to 17s lid, shorn wethers lis 6d to lis 9d, hoggets (mixed sexes) 14s 3d, wether hoggets 13s 6d to 14s, ewe hoggets to 16s 2d, and ewes and lambs 8s 6d to 9s 4d all counted. The entry of fat lambs totalled 389 as against 207 lost week, and the quality generally was better. With a larger supply, competition among the butchers was less keen, and prices were lower by 2s to 2s id per head, and about 50 lambs were passed unsold. Best lambs made 13s 6d to 15s 9d, and lighter 10s 6d to 13s. The entry of fat sheep was not quite as large as last week, and was of mixed quality. The market opened at about last week's rates, but eased considerably as the sale progressed, and the presence of the West Coast buyers assisted to make the competition keener. The shorn sheep wore of better .quality than last week, and sold more rapidly. The range of prices was:—Prime wethers 20s to 2'js cd, lighter 15s to 19s 6d, shorn wethers 12s 6d to 18s Id, prime ewes 17s 6d to 22s od, others .15s 5d to 17s, shorn ewes lis 6d to 15s, hoggets 16s 4d to 18s 2d, prime merino wethers 15s to 19s 7d, others 14s 6d. .

The yarding of fat cattle totalled 217, or about 100 less than last week, and included some exceptionally prime lines, especially the draft from Mount Palm Station. There was more life in the competition. The prices were firmier by about Is per' 1001b. Several lots were passed in, including consignments from the North Island.. Steers made £5 15s to £11, and extra to £14 ss, heifers £5 5s to £10, and extra to • £12, cows £5 5s to £8 10s, and extra to £9, equal to 28s to 31s for prime handy weights, 25s to 27s 6d for medium, and 20s to 24s 6d for inferior, per 1001b. There was a small yarding of store cattle, the greater number being of indifferent quality, but all lines met with a free demand, although a few pens were passed. Yearlings made to 31s, 18-20 months sorts £2 17s 6d, two-year heifers £3 ss, 2-year steers £5 3s 7d, 3-year steers £6 ss, 3-year heifers £4 10s, dry cows £1 16s to £4. Dairy cows njade £3 10s to £8, and extra to £10. Pigs, both fats and stores, were entered in fairly large numbers, and all classes met with a good demand at the previous week's rates. Choppers sold up to £3 10s, weaners 31s to 58s, equal to 4£d per lb, porkers 27s to 38s, equal to 4gd to 4ld per lb, large stores 20s to 245, medium 15s to 19s, and weaners 5s to lis.
