THE POWELKA SENTENCE.
SEVEN THOUSAND SIGNATURES TO THE PETITION. (Peb Press Association.! WELLINGTON, June 29. The executive of the Powelka committee to-night made preliminary arrangements for the public meeting which it is proposed to hold on the evening of Sunday, July 10. It is computed that about seven thousand persons in Wellington have signed the petition to the Minister for Justice for the mitigation of Powelka s sentence. The Wanganui Herald .says over 2600 signatures have been received to the Wanganui petition.
