MANAWATU RACING CLUB'S AUTUMN MEETING. FIRST DAY. Fine weather, with a high wind, prevailed to-day when the Manawatu Racing Club commenced its autumn meeting. The 1 special train arrangements made by the Racing Club appeared to have been suitable for residents of other districts, nearly all the trains being well patronised. The attendance promises to be well above previous years if the fine weather continues. The lawn and course are in excellent condition, particularly the lawn, which is gay with flowers, reflecting credit on the Club's caretaker, Mr Stevens. Puketotara led to the 5-furlong post, and then gave way to Ascalon, who led into the home stretch. At the half distance Emblem shot out and stalling off Leolanter and Moree, won comfortably by a length and a-half, half a length being between second and third horses. Ascalon was fourth. Time, lmin 18 3-5 sees.
