A hall-caste Maori lad, William Arthur, for breaking, entering, theft and forgery, and uttering', at Gisborne, was sentenced .o two years on each charge, to run concurrently. The Judge remarked that there was immorality amongst the Maoris, who must not be judged on the same level as an English civilised community. He was admitted to probat ion for twelve months. Frank -Tozcr was sentenced to six months for forgery. Clwles Edward Stuart, aged 30. was sentenced to ten years for a certain offence. John Thompson was admitted to probation for two years for breaking and entering with intent to commit a, crime at Ongarue. He entered the railway station, while muddled with drink in the hope of getting more liquor.
