During- the three seasons Government control in respect of stallions for the use of farmers in Victoria has been ia operation 2664 animals, were examined whereof 1973 wore certificated and 691, or 25.93 per cent, rejected, 442 being- on the ground of hereditary unsoundness and 269 as being below the standard of Government certification. The report of tho chief veterinary officer states unsoundness of an hereditary character still exists to a considerable proportion of sires unfit for their purpose on account of mongrel characteristics. During the past season the New Zealand Government's certificates have been accepted in connection with 33 stallions imported from the Dominion
