ENTERTAINMENTS.

"PETER PAN." '

To-morrow and also Thursday evening Mr J. C. Williamson stages J. M. sßarrie's delightful fantasy, "Peter Pan," at the Municipal Opera House. Many stories have been circulated as to the circumstances which prompted Mr Barrie to write "Peter Pan," the moat generally accepted one is that he had been 'to a pantomime performance where the jokes or the comedians were extremely suggestive, and the performance decidedly vulgar. "And that is meant to amuse children," lie remarked. "I'll see if I cannot do something that both children and grown-ups will appreciate more.'' And 'he wrote "Peter Pan," which Ave all know has been a world wide sue■cegs. It- is a delightful break away from orthodox types of theatrical shows, and really stands by itself; it cannot be classed as either burlesque, pantomime, comedy or drama, albeit it contains' a flavouring of each. Mr ■Williamson's Company, headed by Mr Thomas Kingston, will arrive to-mor-row from New Plymouth. Messrs Maurice Dudley. Fred Camhoui'ne, Harold Carr, Miss Valentine Sydney, and several other artists were members or> the original Australian cast. Miss Lizette Parkes was specially selected by Mr Williamson- for "Peter Pan" of the present tour, and judging by what we have seen of this clever little lady, she should live Mr Barrie's creation to the life. Miss Dolly llevira plays Wendy Darling. Booking of reserved seats is remarkably heavy at Bennett and Co.'s, where intending patrons should attend early to secure seats for this world-famous production.
