SUBMARINE ERUPTIONS.

Submarine eruptions have occurring lately in the vicinity of Kawhia, at a poir:t between Albatross Point arid Crci~-i£T liltlTid. About fiVe hci C' nOW OCcurred. and those who have witnessed thern state that the water is thrown up as high as the mast of a scnooner. That tie disturbance is considerable z; shown by the fact that the beach for about twelve miles in length is covered with red and black inud and _deep-sea shells after each eruption, added to wnicn the smell of sulphur is unpleasantly strong. Captain Lid die. who lives three miles away, and is an invalid, is able to tell bv the strong small of sulphur v.-hen there has been another eruption. , i _ There is a hot spring near Kawma harbour, but m far this has not snown anv increase in volume when these eruptions occur, and yet this same spring on the beach showed great activity during the recent eruption of Ngaurunoe.
