SHARK BOARDS A FISHING BOAT. MELBOURNE, March 21. A Queonscliff fisherman and his son, while fishing for schnapper in Symoncls Channel, had an exciting adventure with a 12ft shark. The fish were taking the bait freely, when a large shark, ranging alongside the boat, and being evidently hungry, began to make things lively. Several times, in its eagerness to take the hooked fish off the lines, it struck the boat, but always in the act of turning. The climax occurred when the elder fisherman was in the act of landing a fish over the stern of the boat. The shark jumped clean out of tho water, and grasping the schnapper, put its head and part of its body right inside the boat, its mouth, bristling with rows of sharp teeth, closing viciously within six inches of the fisherman's extended arm. The weight of the monster caused the boat to list badly, and the shark slipped into the water again, but it would not leave the vicinity. From another boat anchored close bv a large shark hook was baited, and thrown overboard. The bait was promptly swallowed, but the shark was so strong that "the hook straightened out.
