HIGH SCHOOL BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

The High School Board of Governors met last night. There were present Messrs Collingwood (chairman), Hodder, Hirsch, Rutherfurd, Stubbs, and Barnicoat. The Rector, Mr Vernon, was also present. Apologies were received from the Ven. Archdeacon Harper and Mr W. T. Wood. REPORT.

The Rector reported that the roll was_l9l, 119 boys and 72 girls. Five pupils had, however, left, making the actual roll 186. The average attendance for the past four weeks was 178, 180, 177, and 163. Bessiq Pigott, who passed the Junior University Scholarship with credit, has been awarded a senior national scholarship, worth about £60 per year, for three years. The thanks of the Board were due to Mr H. Billens for the gift of an oil painting to the school. A number of old pupils had also donated books to the librarv.

The Technical Committee reported that the director had been authorised to apply to the Department for a grant of £220 with which to fit up a imechanical engineering department at the school. After , some discussion Mr Rutherfurd's scheme for a new board of management as altered was agreed to and approved, and recommended to the High School Board for adoption. Votes of thanks Avere accorded to the proprietors of the "Standard" for a donation of £3 14s towards the Technical School funds.

The* directors of the Technical School reported that the classes were itow in full swing. The weekly enrolments have reached 700, which the directors thought for a town the size lof Palmerston a splendid testimony to the interest and desire shown by the younger' generation to make the best use of their opportunities. The coolcery class is now conducted by Miss M. Watson, instead of by Miss Grant (Wanganui Education Board's teacher). Everything is working very satisfactorily. The order and attendance of the students is good. GENERAL. The correspondence included the usual intimations from the Treasury of capitation remitted. ,-The treasurer reported that the credit at the bank was £146. Accounts totalling £116 were passed for payment.
