A SYDNEY TRAGEDY.
A BARMAID SHOT DEAD

A tragedy occurred in the Cafe Italien, in Bond street, this afternoon resulting in the death of a barmaid named Stark, employed there. A man calling himself Walter Lovett entered the bar and without warning fired shot after shot, in quick succession, at the woman, who fell bleeding from several wounds, and died almost immediately, exclaiming with her last breath, "Look after my girl." After shooting the barmaid Lovett turned the revolver on himself, but only inflicted a minor wound. He told the proprietor of the cafe on Saturday that Stark was his wife.
The woman had her left eye completely blown out She received • two terrible wounds in the head and two others in the body.
The murderer stated that ho was a commercial traveller, and that he had been drinking.
