FIRE AT WHITELEY'S.
CONFINED TO ONE DEPARTMENT
(By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Per Press Association.) Received March 15, 9 a.m. LONDON, March 14. An outbreak of fire occurred at Whiteley's, the great London retail shop. The customers and 4000 assistants were removed without confusion. A dozen firemen were overcome by smoke and taken to the hospital. One department was destroyed. The fire was confined to one department by elosiug tlfce iron doors, which prevented a serious calamity. The damage was small.
