SWIMMING.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS. ! A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. There was a splendid attendance of scholars and parents at the baths yesterday afternoon, when the annual swimming sports, held in connection with the Palmerston High School, took place. From start to finish great enthusiasm was displayed by the juvenile "barrackers," and the standard of swimming was exceptional. The officials were:—Mr F. Foote, starter; Messrs W. H. CoHingwood (chairman of the High School Board), J. E. Vernon (headmaster), W. Stubbs, and J. Murray, judges of swimming; and Mr H. Swallow, judge of the neat header.

The annual competition for medals offered by the N.Z. Amateur Swimming Association took place this afternoon. Four girls under 14 years started, Tui Bain winning the four races in times which showed her to be the best school girl representative yet brought forward. Her times were as follows:—2syds, 17 4-ssecs; previous record, 19secs. SOydfe, 42$p§cs; previous record, 45secs. 75yds, 69 l-ssecs; previous record 73secs. 100 yds, 104secs; previous record 109secs.
