The steamer Cornwall, when berthing at Newcastle, bumped a big hole in the wharf and displaced a portion of the railway line. Several of the steamer's plates were damaged; At Lismore ex-constables Bartlett and Toohey were sentenced to four and three years' hard labour respectively f<>r stealing three scarf pins from the room of a local doctor after his death. Tho judge severely censured the prisoners for attempting. to implicate an innocent man.
