Mr J. G. Wilson was absent' from the meeting of the Hospital Board to-day through indisposition. Mr Davidson, stat'ionmaster at Mangawcka, has received notice of his transfer to Aramoho. Mr Harris, of Woodville, will take his place. Mr F. T. Woodmass, late of Wellington and Levin, has been appointed bandmaster of the newly-formed band at Taumarunui, and commences his duties this week. Mr Andrew J. Paterson. sccond engineer of the Wellington City Council, has been appointed borough engineer at Gisborne. A Wellington telegram says that B. A. Osborne, of Palmerston, also secured a first-class certificate in the recent plumbing examination of the Wellington Technical School, Mr S. R. Lancaster, President of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, had a busy day at Pahiatua yesterday. He had the comprehensive task of judging all the cattle and all the purebred sheep, and the imposition of that task was a striking compliment to his wide knowledge of stock. Mr H. Haydon's resignation was received at this morning's meeting of the Hospital Board. Mr L. R. Bryant moved that the resignation be accepted with regret. "Hear, hear," chimed in Mr Vincent; "we have lost a good man." "Rather a contrast to the Napier 'pickings,' " was another ■ remark made anent the reason of Mr Haydon's resignation. Mr _W. Stubbs was appointed treasurer in Mr Haydon's place. Yesterday Mr and Mrs John Procter, of Jenks street, 'Foxton, celebrated their golden wedding —fifty years of married life spent principally in New Zealand. The old couple were married in St. Mary' 6 parish church, Lancaster, by the Rev. Jas. Turner, vicar, on February 9th, 1860. They emigrated the same year, arriving in Picton from Melbourne in 1861. Mr Proctor subsequently removed to Wellington and arrived in Foxton in 1876 to build Whyte's Hotel. For many years he followed his calling as a builder throughout the Manawatu and Rangitikei districts until old age and rheumatism called a halt. Mr and Mrs Procter are enjoying comparatively good health. The old couple have six sons and three daughters living and married, 49 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
