SPORTING.

The Pahiatua Racing Club sustained a loss of £124 on their recent meeting. Members of the committee express themselves well pleased with the result of the meeting, the success of which was marred to a great extent by wet weather. They fully expected that the deficiency would have been at least £200. In the previous year a profit of £418 7s 9d was made. Air J. Amee, owner of Merrivonia, writes to the New Zealand Times as follows: —In the sporting notes of the New Zealand Times of Friday last your contributor states that Merrivonia is being hustled along in view of her Wanganui Cup engagement. The paragraph is either pure invention or written purposely for the benefit of the bookmakers. The horse has done no work since the Tmntham meeting, and it is improbable that she will go to Wanganui. If the remainder of the notes are as reliable as the one in question they are very misleading, to say the least of it. My only reason for writing is to protect the public who indulge in ante-post betting. W. Young, A. At wood, 0. O'Neill, «nd V. O'Neill are to appear before the Wanganui Jockey Club on March 2 in connection with an occurrence at the Foxton. Racing Club's meeting on January 24.
