ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
The body of a Maori farmer named Kara Te Huki was found in a gully in the Stronvar (Wairarapa) district on Sunday morning. It is surmised that the deceased fell off his horse, and, as there are marks on his body, it is supposed he was kicked by the horse after he fell. A SHUNTER KILLED. HAMILTON, Feb. 8. Another shocking fatality occurred at Frankton Junction at six o'clock last evening, when William McPyke, shunter, aged 27 years, single, met his death. He was riding on the cowcatcher when, apparently, his foot slipped and he fell in front of the engine, which passed over him, severing both legs. He died in the hospital four hours later. SUICIDE BY SHOOTING. AUCKLAND, Feb. 8. A telegram from Maungatawhiri reports the suicide by shooting of a man named J. C. Scott. A BOY DROWNED. WELLINGTON, Feb. 8. While bathing with some smaller children at Kilbirnie last evening Eric Gibson, aged about 12 years, was drowned. A man named Hunt went in and brought the boy out, when it was observed that he was in trouble, but the lad was then unconscious, and did not recover, although restorative efforts were continued for over two hours.
