SUPREME COURT.
(Per Press Association.) ' CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 7. In the Supreme Court, Thomas Bromahan, agod 17, and C. H. Jeffries, 18, on six charges of theft from churches, were admitted to probation for three years. John Spaan, on two charges of forgery, was declared an habitual criminal and sentenced to a year" on each charge. E. J. Shcard was charged with-' attempting to levy blackmail and was fined £25: IT. Priest, charged with theft of letters, was admitted to probation for 18-months. H. Kanjan, for theft, got probation for two years. E. J. Heale, charged with appropriation of Lodge money, was .sentenced to a year's imprisonment. AUCKLAND, Feb. 7. The criminal session of tho Supreme Court opened this morning. Judge Cooper, in his charge to the Grand Jury, remarked on the comparatively small number of cases, and expressed regret that no less than seven charges were of sexual offences against six persons. The punishment inflicted in the past did not, seem to deter" the committal of such, offences.
