TO THE SOUTH POLE.
(By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Per Press Association.) LONDON, Feb. 6. Mr Griffiths.Taylor, of Sydney, at present at Cambridge University, has been appointed geologist for Captain Scott's Antarctic expedition.
Sir Ernest Shackleton says that Commander Peary's starting base will be 200 miles more, northerly than Captain Scott's. He doubts if the Americans can land because the regions there are unknown. The Americans will be further handicapped by proposed journeying over quite new ground, whereas Captain Scott will traverse the route previously traversed to within 97 miles of the Pole by Shackleton's expedition.
