AUCKLAND, Feb. 7. The Kaipara inquiry resumed tMs morning. Thos. Dyke gave the result of soundings at the railway wharf at low water on Saturday last. In no case did the soundings give a less depth than the chart.

Frank Walters, diver, described a visit to the berth occupied by the Kaipara -it the railway wharf. _He found a lariye quantity of stones weighing up to 1 cwfc, but none bore evidence of contact with a. ship's bottom or anything else. He elso examined the shoal in Rangitoto channel and said it protruded three or four feet above the sea bottom. He t>a\v grooves on tlio rock and patches of red paint. About 30 yards to the south-east he found another rock on which tvas a piece of copper sheathing. An officer from H.M.S. Challenger deposed that a diver from the warship located the rock in the fairway, the highest point being seven feet above-the bottom. The depth of water above it was 24ft 9in. According to the chart he considered the Kaipara took a safe course.
