THE LIBERALS' TACTICS. (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright./ (Per Press Association.) LONDON, Feb. 6. London newspapers reveal sharp differences among the Liberals concerning tho tactics to be adopted by the Government regarding the House of Lords. The Chronicle, in a two-column leader, urges v the Liberals to forego sectional divisions and personal rivalries, and shows that Mr Asquith on Deceipber 2 stated that tho first act of the new Government would be to re-impose the Budget. The Chronicle adds that no other legislation except insurance against unemployment should be attehipted until the Lords' veto is abolished. The Creation of hundreds of hereditary peers is distasteful to democrats, says the Chronicle. Tho strategic danger is of Liberals submitting a scheme which is capable of being represented as the virtual abolition of tho House of Lords. Mr Balfour would then submit a. scheme for a reformed Chamber, and the choice' of the electors would bo doubtful.
The Times says that if Mr Asquifh contemplated an heroic step he should have gone to the >King directly the result of the election was made known. Nevertheless, the time has arrived for a real change in the Second Chamber. A basis for deliberation exists in Lord Rosebery's report. The Labour Leader says that Labour members are opposed to the reform of the House of Lords and demand its abolition.
Mr Wm. O'Brien says that the Nationalists require the Irish part of the Budget to be reconstructed from top to bottom.
