ANNIVERSARY SERVICES.

BROAD STREET SUNDAY SCHOOL.

The services in connection with the thirty-third anniversary of tho Broad street Methodist Sunday School were successfully concluded last evening by a tea and public meeting. The tea was served in the schoolroom, and was very largely patronised. The tables were presided over by members of the teaching staff, and the young ladies and young incu'e classes.

The after meeting was held in the church and wae also largely attended. Mr G. H. Bennett, superintendent of the school, presided, and the hymns, which were a special feature of tho Sunday services, wero repeated, the soloists being Miss Dora Blackburn and Seneta Hodges and Mrs P.. Torstonson. Sarly in the proceedings the annual report and balanco-6heet wero read by tho secretary, Mr C. Whittington. It was 6hown that the roll number, including Bible- classes, is 271. The average attendance during the past year is given at 199, and the number on the cradle roll considerably c>yer 100. During the year a new marking and report system was adopted in the school and has proved ■ very beneficial in every way. Tho infant room has been fitted ur. with a sand-table, black board and a small organ, and is now one of the best equipped >n tho district. The roll number is at present 94. Reference was made to the splendid work being done, by Sietcr Jean.

The chairman made a brief reference to the work of the year as disclosed by the report, and heartily congratulated the teachers and scholars upon the satisfactory state of affairs. He spoke in very glowing terms of tho secretary, Mr C. Whittington, and Mr L. Whittington, who has charge of tfio infant department. Tho success of tho school is largely duo to their enthusiasm and untiring efforts. The thanks of the school is also due to them for the" equipment of the infant room and their splendid gift, the sand-table.

During the evening addresses wero given by Messrs Vernon. and Hoddcr and the Rev. T. T. Thomas, 8.A., who also distributed the prizes. An apology for unavoidable absence was received from Rev. G. W. J. Spence.

The. following is a list of the prizewinners:—Laurie Laurenson, Gordon Bennett, Mary Bailey, Maieie Bennett, Eric Davis. Mabel Reynolds, Nellie Farlaticl, Bertie Lyon. Edna Gordan, Eteio Koehlcr. Doris. Wilson, Leila Laurenson, Eiiza Hudson. Alice Hudson, Dorothy Lyon, Lcn Davis, Veda Wilson, Ethel Hocking.

Special prizes for attendance were received by Mabel Reynolds, Elsie Koehler, Wilfred Barker, Harry Sanson, Roy Wilson. Olga Harris, Ivy Pollard, May Bailey, Alice Hudson, Eliza Hudson, tho first five of whom received medals, kindly donated by Mr J. Whitehead, for not missing one attendance during the whole year. Before the gathering dispersed votes of thanks were passed to all who had assisted to make the anniversary a success. BAPTIST SUNDAY SCHOOL. The fifteenth anniversary of tho Palmorston North Baptist Sunday School was held last night. Mr A. E,, Whitehead, superintendent, occupied the chair. The speakers for tho evening wero tho Rev. Arthur Dewdney (Wellington) and the Rev. F. Maodonald. The annual report, which was read by the secretary. Mr George Miller, showed that steady progress had been made in the various departments of the Sunday School work. Tho amalgamation of tho Bible classes into a P.S.A. Society had proved a great success, tho attendance having increased considerably. Thirteen names had been added to the cradle roll during the year. Special anthems were pleasingly rendered during the evening by the children under the leadership of Mr J. P. Moore, which showed no effort had been spared in their training. During the evening a number of recitations were given by various scholars, which were much enjoyed. The following is a list of tho prize-winners:—First prizes for marks were won by Chrissie Emmett, Elsie Emmett, Effio Holbrook, Lillie Emmett. Myrtle Whitehead ; second prizes by Howard Sutton, Flossie Holbrook, Winnie Sutton. Alfson Rush, Eileen Rush, Gwen Rush; third prizes by Ray Whitehead, Hazel Whitehead, Douglas Whitehead, Louis Whitehead, G. Whitehead and Frank Miller. A special prize for text design offered by tho Wellington/C.E. Union was won by Elsie Smith and another bv Louis Whitehead for scrap book competition. The Baptist Union's eecond class certificate wae awarded to Eric Horn. George Elliott and Vernon Elliott won attendance prizes, and tho following awards were made in the infant division: — Queenio Richards, Gladys Mayo, Dudley Whitehead, Gwen Whitehead, Muriel Strong, Lottie Richards. Laura Rush, Grace Elliot, Winnie Richards, Fred Mavo, Hector Macdonald.
