. Bro. Hornblow has been elected Worshipful Master of Lodge TeAwahou, Foxton. The installation will take place on Friday evening. Archbishop Redwood is at preserit a visitor to Palmerston. He is the guest of Father Costello, and will be leaving about the end of the week. The Rev. Father O'Donnell, who is ■leaving on a trip to Ireland after fifteen vears' labor in Gore, was presented'with two hundred guineas from the ' congregation and a gold watch.and albert from the citizens. ' Mrs McDonald, a well-known resident of Suva, who conducted the leading hotel there for many years, and is highly respected at the Islands, is a visitor to Palmerston. Mrs McDonald, who has retired from business, is the guest of Mr and Mrs J. O. Batchelar. A very old identity of Clive (H. 8.), in the person of Mrs Wilkinson, crossed the Great Divide on Sunday. The deceased lady, who was 73 years of age, arrived in the colony in 18/4, and settled at Clive, where she resided to the time of her death. Her husband predeceased her. by some years. The death occurred on Friday of Mr William George Murray, formerly Commissioner of Crown. Lands for Nelson, district. Mr Murray retired from active service a little over two years ago on account of ill-health, and he continued to reside., at Nelson. The late Mr Murray' was born in Banffshire, Scotland, where he was educated and trained in his profession as a surveyor. He came to the Dominion when about twenty years of age and in 1867 entered the Survey Department at Hokitika, where he served under Mr Malcolm Frasei (afterwards Sir Malcolm Fraser, of Western Australia). He was an energetic and capable officer, and _in 1872 he was promoted to the position of District Surveyor at Ross.. Subsequent! v he attained the position of Commissioner of Crown Lands and Chief Surveyor for Westland. In 1902 he was transferred to Nelson to a similar position. In 1872 Mr Murray was married to Miss Smith, and his wife survives him. also two sons and a daughter (Mrs C. H. Broad).
