The Canadian Government invited Mr Deakin to represent Australia at the Quebec tercentenary celebrations. After comnfunicating with Earl Dudley, the newly-appointed GovernorGeneral, Mr Deakin replied regretting Parliamentary duties would preclude his visiting Canada, but he had arranged with Earl Dudley to represent the Commonwealth at the celebrations.
