The Times' military correspondent, in an article headed "Armed Australia," recommends the Commonwealth, in the event of Mr Deakin's plan being, accepted. to devote its best efforts to the provision of a highly educated body of officers, a solid permanent staff and the best system of field artillery. The article declares that, if Mr Deakin's scheme passed, it would give the Motherland a lead which was badly wanted.
