NEW SCHOOL OF MINES.
Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, March. 16. The University Council held a special meeting this afternoon to consider tenders received for the erection of a new School of Mines. Dr. Shand said that at the last meeting of tbe Council it was found that the lowest tender considerably exceeded the amount of £4000 granted by the Government for the erection of the building. Application had been made to the Government for an additional £1000, and Cabinet had authorised this expenditure. There ■would" not now be any diculty in the way of accepting a tender and at once proceeding with tho erection of the building. The tender of Gabriel Hodges, amounting to £4363, was accepted. It was also decided to ask Government to pay the £5000 authorised before March 31st.
