This caught Mr J\luldoon at the back of the ■head, inflicting a frightfully deep gash, and fracturing iho base of file skull. A second blow was given, and another deep cut inflicted on the side of. the head. In tho confusion the murderer escaptd. Mr Muldoon was brought up in the train to the hospital at Longreacb, bus never regained consciousness. Either wound would have been suflicienfi to cause death. He has left a widow and* two young children. Tho police scoured the country in search of the murdsrer, who is an elderly man, and is said to be well known.
