Melbourne v. Canterbury.

The match Canterbury v. Melbourne Club was concluded on Saturday, the yisitors winning by nine wickets. The weather was perfect, the wicket in good condition, and the attendance large.
On the previous daj' Canterbury had made 135, and Melbourne 123 for five wickets. Melbourne concluded their innings for 267, the chief scorers being Mailer 15, Ransford 50, Armstrong 32, McLeed 37, Henty 12, Aitken 84, Wilkinson 20. Aitken gave no chance, and his large score included six 4's, five 3's, and twelve 2's.
Bennett and Malone, who took most of the wickets, bowled very steadily, though the latter's length was occasionally at fault.
The Canterbury second innings was a little better than the first. Olliver at times showed how Armstrong should be dealt with by putting him to leg, and Sims also made some good leg hits, but generally the men were at sea to his stuff. McLeod kept a splendid length and nothing could be done with him, while Butler rattled down wickets at the end in quick time._ .The visitors' fielding was splendid, evoking round after round of applause. Ihe inning ended for 153 (Orchard 11, Oliver 53, J. D. Lawrence 14, Sims 28, Tafrart 28), leaving Melbourne 22 to get to win. ' This was compiled with the loss of one wicket, that of Jennings, who was given out l.b.w. Yaughan made 13 not out.
