A Screw Loose Somewhere.

(To the Editor)

Sir,—Tkat "ticket for soup" by which 'it is intended to spoon feed the ratepayers don't seem to go down well. Somehow they don't take it kindly at all. A very stronsr indication, if any is needed, is that Cr Armstrong has thought fit to get off the "bill of fare," evidently perceiving that he was on a sinking ship. I think he is quite right and if he will only display a little fortitude at this critical juncture he will come through the ordeal safe and sound. I trust he will not heed the gentle threat of the Manawatu Daily Times, wherein the newspaper scalping knife is referred to his consideration if he doesn't keep in line. Sir, I. trust the ratepayers will carefully consider the 12th question propounded by our local political soupkitchen. It appears to me that an effort is being made to pare the way for a substantial relaxation of the regulations for the making of private streets in the interests of somebody.—Yours, etc., Wide Awake.
