Exploring Cares.

A correspondent of the Auckland Herald, writing from Waitomo, gives an account of a visit to some of the caves in that district. He states that on Sunday last aparty, consisting of Messrs. Wratten, Wilson, Larsen, and Kirk, set out to explore some caves that were supposed to be known only to the ancient Maoris. After about half-an-hour's ride from the accommodation house they left their horses, made down through the bush, and searched the banks of the Waitomo Eiver. After a little trouble they found the entrance, and with the aid of acetylene lamps etc., male their way along some beautiful tunnels. When about 300 yards inside they were obliged to halt almost at the foot of a roaring waterfall, the noise of which was almost deafening. Here the cave was rather difficult to penetrate, but with the aid of a few boards the members of the party hope next week to be able to get a proper view, and to find the exact heigh t the water falls.- The glow worms on the roof presented a fine sight, and the entrance is described as beautiful. The cave is known to be about a mile in length, so the explorers hope to be rewarded with a discovery of something out of the common.
