Taonui School Picnic.
Distribution of Prizes.
Tbe annual picnic of the T-ioiui School took place to-day in the school grounds, The weai.fa.er being fine there was a large attendance of pa-onts and children. During the afternoon races weie ran and various picnic g*i_:s indulged in.
The t-lungs nt ths recent concert amounted to £8 83. The exper.Hen totalled „2, which left £Q Ss to purchase prize?. With ibi-- amount. 82 books ware purchased, of which 43 w»re given as prizes to those »ho passed, in their respective standard?, while the remainder were distributed amongst tho unsuccessful scholar*, al>o thn-je below Siandsrd I. and ihe recent arrivals at tbe school, so tb<»t. every pupil received a book.
Special prizes are given as follows : Mrs Lovelock's prizes for best kept garden plot by girls : Addie Morris ;.nd May Nelson. Mesßrs G. H. Bennest and W. Park's prizes- 'for-best; kept, garden for boys: Ferdy FJyger and Leslie-Morris.. ' * .. Mr W. T. Wood's prize'for, dux of the school at last annual examination was gained by Amy Knight. The Chairman's (Mr E. Collins) special prizes for most regular attendance fell to Alvin Preston and Nellie Were.
