ASHBURTON, March 15. At a meeting of the Borough Council last night an offer was received from the Gas Company to sell the works to the municipality for £14,000. It was -decided to ask the Dunedin municipal gas engineer to give expert advice on the matter.
WAIPAWA, March 15. Mr George Oakenfull, an old vesident, who is leaving lor a trip to England, was last night presented with a gold watch by the townspeople. His wife was presented with a valuable 'brooch. The Maoris gave him a large and valuable collection of historical and beautiful ornaments.
CHRISTCHURCH, March 15. Mrs Rattray, aged 65, has been missing from her home at Redcliffs since yesterday morning. When the woman with whom she is living went to her room at seven o'clock she was absent, and must have left the house in her nightdress as her other clothes were still in her room.
WELLINGTON, March _5. Kirn Lee, the Chinese leper, on Somes Island, died yesterday afternoon. He was practically cured oi leprosy but succumbed to internal complications. His body will be interred on the island.
