Kairanga County Council.
The following is the balance of the business at yesterday's meeting : —
NGAWHAKAEAU EOAD,
A letter was received from Milverton and Son, explaining that they had not made the progress they should have done owing to the men refusing to work on the Christmas holidays, three days' rain, men leaving at a minute's notice, and one engine not being satisfactory They would put on teams if more progress were not made during the next two weeks. They asked for a progress payment. After lengthy consideration of this contract, the following resolution was passed •.—" That in the opinion of this Council, Milverton tmd Son are not proceeding with their contracts with sufficient expedition ; and that Milverton and Son be notified that unless at least 90 yards of metal be delivered on the works per day the Council will take the contract out of their hands and complete them at their cost; and that Milverton and Son be allowed seven days from this date to complywith the notice. MISCELLANEOUS. It was decided to hold a meeting on Thursday, January 2Sth, to consider metalling contracts. W. Eandell's tender for dog collars was accepted. The metalling tenders were held over till the special meeting.
