Tim jury added a recommendation to mercy on the ground that there was no evidence as to who fired the shot. When asked if ho had anything to say Grrand said : "I ] la vo to tell your Honour to your face that you have conducted the case more like! a Crown Prosecutor than a Judge•" Then, naming a certain- Judge he continued: "Whore did ho dio ? Away from friends and relations where I hope you will. I will meet you before God. Then you will see whether I am innocent or guilty " Jones told the Judge ho was prejudiced irom the firsts THE STRIKE, MELBOURNE, Last night.The annual meeting of the Chamber of Commerce passed a resolution congratulating the Premier and Government on the happy termination of the strike, and expressing .Appreciation of tho Government's action throughout.i A large number of trains have been despatched to tho country; Immediate relief has been given to those centres in need of provisions. The regular running of the Adelaide and Sydney expresses will ha resumed to-morrow.
