Bergt. St;!£pcole said it was ono of the first cusps of tho nature brought in Paimerston. Defendant appeared quite ignorant of the Act, in fact half ihe town seemed ?o. Xc did not press for a fine, only desiring publicity. The penalty was a fine not exceeding £25. Defendant, replying to tho SM., said lie had nothbjj to say about the matter except that he was quite ignorant of the Act A conviction w;;s recordedand the defendant discharged. BY-LAWS. Jas. Blockley, charged with riding a bicycle on the footpath, was Sned '2s 6d and costs 7s-. O. Muady, clurgeci with driving for hire without a license, wag fined 5a and costs 7s. TUKFJ'. Jno. Cs moron, alias Chts. John Miney. pleaded guilty to a chirge of theft of a bicycle, valued at £24, tho property of J. 13. Clark=on. Accused added that ho had paia £15 off tho purchase of the machins, and now owed only £9. The biko was sold to Mr Harrison, hotelk&eper, Wavcrley. Sergt. Sfc'igpoole prosecuted and stated accused had been convicted of theft and at the present, time was wanted in Wellington, under Ins alias, on a charge of thefc two years ago. A sentence of three months' imprisonment was imposed". No order was made regarding the bicycle spending proof of ownership. ASSAULT. P. Cole (IVIr Moore) pleaded not guilty to a charge oi assaulting T. Montague ]unr. After hearing the evidence of the parties interested the information was dismissed. PEornumoN. A prohibition order wsis granted against a local resident, female, to auply to all local licensed houses.
