The Bill was read a first time The Assets Bealisation Board Lands Bill wag introduced by Sir Joseph Ward and road a first time. Tho Poisons Importation and Carriage Amendment Bill was introduced by Hon 0. 11. Mills and read n first time. Ttio Railways Coiomittee reported on the petition of William Cague, of KaiwaWua, who prayed for compensation for loss and datuags by flood water daaimed up by tho railway formation adjoining his property.—Tho committee referred the petition to tho Government for consideration. Mr Thos. MiKenzio urged that this was a case in which the Government should grant compensation. Mr Jaclioon Palmer considered that it tho Government gave compensation in this case, it should do so in all other cases of a like character throughout the colony.

The Military Pensionc Act Amendment Bill and tho Bailwayß Authorisation Bill were introduced by Qoveraor's Message and read a first time. A now clause in tho Mining Act Amendment Bill was brought down by Governor's message, and agreed to.

After considerable discussion, in which objection was taken to the amendment on the ground that the proposed tax would press heavily on the poorer classes, the Hon. J. Carroll moved to withdraw it, and the House agreed to this course. Tho amendments mode by the Legislative Council in the Inspection of Machinery Biil and Bank Holidays Bill wore agreed to, Sir Joseph Ward moved the second reading of the Vie:oiii Colicgs Site Bill, which has passed tho Legislative Council. On going into Committe on tho Bill Messrs Massey, Jas. Alien, and others, urged that Government should agree to an adjournment, and protested against the practice of legislation by exhaustion. Allen then moved that the Chairman leave tho chair, and a lengthy discussion ensued, the Opposition continuing to protest against the late sitting.

Eventually at 5.10 a.m., Mr Allen withdrew his motion qn tho understand; ing that the fh'st three clauses of the Bill should be passed and a new clause be brought down by tho Minister at next sitting. This arrangemeut was carried out, The first three clauses of the Bill were agreed to unaltered and on the lion Mr Hall Jones motion progress was reported.
