Tbo Council mot at 2.30. Leave of absence was granted Hon W. Kelly for tho remainder cf the session on account of illness in hia fl Tho following Bills passed their final stages:—Legislative Council Act Amendment, West Coast Settlement Keservcs Aineud-nbut, Accident Insurance Companies. On tho motion that the Land Titles Protection Bill bo committed Hon Mr Ormond Bpoko in support of tho measure, which in to afford protection from frivolous attacks against titles to lands cedod to tbo Crown or privato porsons by thejjatives. Hon Tomoana looked upon tho Bill as placing Maoris at a disadvantage as oomparcd with Europeans in raising the question as to titles obtained for native lands.
Hod Tairoa thought that some cases brought by tho natives were frivolous, but there were others that roquired investigation. Tho debata was interrupted by the 5 p.m. adjournment.
Tho Council met At 8 p.m.
The following Bills passed their final stages :—Land Titles Protection, Solicitors' Bills of Cents, Licensing Committees and Polls, Companies Act Amendment.
