The recent treaty between England and Japan has ben the means of Australia endeavouring to push her export trade in the latter country, but, according to our cables yesterday it would appear that the representatives who visited and returned from Japan do not hold out much hope of ti*ado between the two countries. Further.it was stated that the Japanese are determined to protec' themselves in produce and everything elso, and evidently do not intend to give much away, but will take everything in tbe way of profitable trade they can get. Vh» Japinose exports incjea.ted from -5,668.703 m _S9 °* -to 1,#2.,980 in 1899, and the imports from »*_ 88' fe7 in 1890, to £22,0.0,193 in 1899, and the national revenue irom £8,355,589 in 1901-2, to 4£20,45.,95 lin 1900-1901. Thorofore it will be seen that Japan is a country worth while trading with.
