The official report has been published of the recent race between the cruisers Hyacinth and Minerva from Gibraltar to Portsmouth, for the purpose of testing the different patterns of boilers. The report says that the leaky joints in the Hyacinth's boilers, which are of the Belleville type, cause a very serious loss of ..water.. The tubes of the Minerva's boilers, which are of the ordinary return tube type, choked. The extreme coal endurance of either vessel at 7000 horse-power was proved to be about;3ooo miles. They can thus steam 1500 miles to sea and return to their base. . END OP A STRIKE. Bbisbane, August 26. The wharf labourers'strike has ended. The .employers conceded tho workers' demand for the abolition of the ticket system, which was enforced through the employers' labour bureau since the watersido workers' strike. SOUTH AUSTRALIA'S HARVEST. Adelaide, August 26. On the strength of further heavy rain the Advertiser says that it is almost certain the wheat yield will be 'better than for a decade. ■
