At the Golden Cross, Waitekauri, on Sunday, three boys, Heron and Adams (2), wore shooting with old rifles, one of which was discharged accidentally by the older Adams jumping on a log.' The charge entered 'Heron's heart, and slightly injured tho yonnger Adams. Heron died two hours later.

A narrow escape from drowning occurred off the Te Aro Railway Station yesterday afternoon. Several small boys were amusing themselves sailing boats when one of them named Williams, ventured out to .the recently-erected wall. Somehow or dthei' he got into the water. He was noticed by his companions, who gave the alarm, and Nicholas Wine, a fisherman, of Little Taranaki street, rusheddown to the end of the wall and- jumped -into the sea. He brought the boy to the end of the wall, when he was hauled up by willing hands.
