HORSE SALE.

Messrs Gorton and Son held the third i annual sale of draught horses on account I of Messrs Hocken Bros, at the farm of the latter, " Grassmere," near Feilding, ! on Wednesday. There was a very large J attendence of buyers from all parts of 1 both islands. Some seventy horses,mostly | draughts, were offered for sale, and the I quality being exceptionally good thev were readily disposed of. * The horses were the finest which Messrs Hocken Bros, haye ever offered for sale, and, in ■ fact, were the best lot ever got together in the district. The highest price paid was £51 19s 6d, for a black gelding, which went to a purchaser from Dannevirke. There was an exceptionally fine mare by Clansman, out of a Wallace mare, for which the bidding was spirited, it being eventually knocked down to Mr B. Poole, of Feilding, for .£sl 9s. A bay mare, in foal to Eob Roy, was purchased by Mr D. Buick for i*49 17s 6d. Other prices ranged down to £26 5s for a light draught, while wellbred hacks sold from £12 12s to £18 18s. The average price realised, including hacks, was £31 lis. (Per Press Association) Napier, May 17.
