EDUCATION BOARD ELECTION.

As we anticipated, the result of our pointing out the rejection of Mr a; S. Bridge at the ensuing Education Board would probably be that the chairman, ship .would be reinoyed from Wanganui, has been to considerably lesson the opposition to Mr Bridge's re-election there. The Eev. Mr Bond writes to ns contradicting our statement that thai opposition to Mr Bridge's re-election I was due to his action in regard to j another High School iv. Wanjjanui, butl

members of the Committee, we can only conclude that Mr Bond, in his innocence has been made a tool of. The Wanganui Herald also backs down considerably, and while it formerly advocated the election of three new members, it now merely asks for two —Messrß Corry and Cohen —leaving it,to be inferred that, although not exactly a persona grata, Mr Bridge should be the third man, for the Herald cays:—"Mr Bridge has devoted much time to the affairs of the Board, as he is a man of leisure, and can afford to give up his time and attention to the duties of his office, which are neither light nor few. It is doubtful if any other member of the existing Board, or those who wish to join it, could devote so much time to the duties of chairman. But Mr Bridge is not a favourite with the School Committees, the members of which appear to think that the present chairman is too autocratic, and inclined to ignore the wishes of the Committees, which will, in many instances, vote against him on the present occasion. Mr Bridge is, as we said before, a hard-working member of the Board, whose services it can ill-afford to lose, and would be sure of re-election if it were not for his attitude at times towards the constituent bodies."
