THE STUCK MARKET.

Messrs Abraham and Williams report as follows:— This week we have to report on Bales held at Dannevirke, Woodville, Pahiatua, Palmer a ton, and a clearing sale of the Estate Mr T. "W. Still's stook at Fitz. herbert. At Palmerston we had ft full yarding of both sheep and cattle, 600 head of cattle being offered on account of Sir Jaa. Prendergast as well as the usual entry, making a total of about 800 head. Nothing was turned out unsold; the cattle sold on account of Sir Jaa Prendergast ware a fine lot, well bred and in good order. In some cases they did not realise the prices expeced owing to the prevalent idea that they were a bit shy, but taking the sale all thr ugh it must be considered very satisfactory. The sheep entry was not of a very high standard, being mostly oomposed of aged ewes and small lambs, consequently bidding was inclined to dras, buyers hanging back for the sales next Wednesday and Thursday, when 25000 sheep will be offered. At the oleariog sale of the late T. W. Still's stook we had a large attendance, and in spite of the draggled appearance of the st- ck (owing to the henvy rain and mud) bidding was brisk from;the start and high prices we^e realized, the 4-tooth ewes making 12s lOd and the 2-tooth ewes 11s 4d.

At Dannevirke, Tuesday 6th inaj, the yards were well filled, The attendance was good, including a number of outside buyers. Bidding for sheep was spirited, a total clearance being made with the exception of a pen of good 2-tooths, which failed to reach vendor's reserve. Cattle were a little easier but a good value was obtained. oDly one pen of empty oows failing to find a purchaser. At Woodyille last Monday we bad a heavy yarding of sheep, the cattle pens being also well filled. All classes of sheep Bold well, especially aged ewes, for whioh there was a good demand. Cattle sold well. Business through the day was good, almost everything selling readily under the hammer. At Pahiatua last Tuesday stock came forward considerably in excess of advertised numbers. The attendance was large. We yarded close on 1000 head of cattle, 700 being disposed of, and over 6000 Bheep, 1000 of which were turned out unsold. The bulk of the cattle consisted of nice fresh steers and bullocks well forward in condition, mostly good sorts and colours, the quality generally being much admired; a line of 150 8 and 3^-year steers made £4 12a 6d, the 200 weaners failed to reach vendors' anticipations. The heavy downpour of rain in the morning, which continued moat of the afternoon, undoubtedly affected the 'sale of sheep, bidding waa inclined to drag, several pens being passed, but matters improved an the sale progressed.
