Musical Entertainment.
A musical evening was held last evening at the Salvation Army Barracks by the members oi the local corps. An excellent and lengthy programme had been prepared and all the items were loudly encored by the audience, which was a fairly large one. The programme opened with a selection by the band. Mrs Hartley and Miss Ward rendered two solos in capital style and Mrs Drew and Mrs Foster also sang a duet for which they were heartily applauded. Several instrumental solos were performed by Messrs A. Francis (comet), A. Baillie (cornet), and Clark (euphonium). These were most creditably played and received well-deserved encores." Four of Adjt. Drew's children rendered a vocal quartette entitled " Faraway." This was one of the most pleasing numbers presented and the children were warmly applauded for their efforts. Mr Jackson gave a clever exhibition of clubswinging which brought the programme to a close. During the evening the band connected with the Army played a large nun-.ber of selections, and the manner in which they were played showed evidence of careful training at the hands of Bandmaster Hartley. They also played "Soldiers of the Queen" and the National Anthem.
