BOROUGH COUNCIL.
(Continuation of Report.) PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE. April 16th, 1886. Present— Crs H. McNeil (chairman)', J. G. Rush, j. Grace, L. G. West, and His Worship the Mayor. The several matters referred to the Committee at the last sitting of the Council were considered. Resolved— Thnt the Town Clerk be instructed to advertise for tenders m accordance with the resolution passed at the previous Council, for lighting the town, and draw up specifications similar to the previous ones. Resolved — That this Committee cannot recommend the Council to remove the turnstiles on the Square, to the consideration of the advisability of which its attention was drawn by a resolution passed at the Council's previous sitting. The application of Mr Gardes that the council wonld take into consideration the accident which had happened to his horse through the breaking m of a culvert referred to the Committee was discussed. Resolved— That the Town Clerk be instructed to write to Mr Gardes explaining that the culvert has been repaired and conveying regret at the accident happening. Instructions were given for plans and specifications of the necessary alterations to the building m Coleman Place, to make it suitable for Council chambers and library. Such plan, &c, to be read for the inspection of the Council at the next ordinary sitting.
FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING. May 4th, 1886. Present— Or S. Abrahams. The ' following accounts were considered :— Roadmen, wages, £56 17s ; R. N. Keeling, salary, £16 13s4d;F. Haines, poundkeeper, £4 3s 4d ; H. Moffatt, lighting, £4 16s; T. Jordan, destroying dogs, £1 2s 6d ; Manawatu Times, advertising, £2 13 7»1 ; Standard, advertising, £2 13s 7d ; Expenses re Loan, £12 17s ; total £101 16s 4d. Resolved — That the Council be recommended to pass the above accounts for payment.
