Wanganui Education Board.

The regular monthly meeting of the this board was held yesterday. Present — Messrs Watt (chairman), Sanson, Baker. Bridge; Bate, Fry, Carson, and Rev. Boss. Correspondence. — Letter from Education -Department informing the board that the month of December m each year was the time appointed for the examination of teachers, and September 15th the latest date upon which intending candidates should send m their names. — Letter from the board's inspector reporting on the examination of teachers. The inspector suggested that unsuccessful candidates should forward to the board the number of marks obtainad by them at their examination. Thirteen completed their certificate. School Commissioner. — Letter from Mr Hislop, secretary to the.department, asking if the board still regarded Sir William .Fox as their Commissioner, and calling attention to certain clauses m the Act re the matter. After discussion, it was resolved — That the secretary write stating that the board still regarded Sir William Fox as their Commissioner. Foxton. — Miss Howarth (pupil teacher) wrote iisk'!ng if it was neco^ary for her to present herself for examination next month, sho having already passed m all snbjcotrf but one. — Mr Bind on explained that Miss Howarth had only failed iv one or two subjects, and the .difficulty was to classify her if sho did not come up for examination.— Resolved, That Miss Howarth l>a instructed that she must present herself for examination. Campbelltown. — The secretary asked for a water tank, the present one being too sin-ill. — The request was declined. School Disci pi i no". — The secretary to the department asked for the name of a certain teacher who had been found guilty of falsification of registers, and who liad left the service m consequence. The department expressed its appreciation of Mr Bindou's action m the matter, — Mr Bindon said the necessary information had been forwarded, and the person was found not to be on the Government list of classified teachers. Pupil Teachers' Examination. — Mr Bindon asked the board to fix the date of the pupil teachers' examination. — It was resolved, That the examination be held during the first week of the holidays. In Committee. — The board then went into committee, when the following business was done : — Ashnrst. — Six tenders were received for the Ashnrst School improvements and master's residence. The following from C. and A. Brockliam and Co. were accepted. School alterations, £68 16s, and master's residence, £171 10s. Taonui. — Committee be requested to forward estimate of an additional room to teacher's residence. Business for next Meeting. — Resolved, That the question of finance, and the consideration of the inspector's reports, be considered at next meeting of the board, and that members be notified that a two days' sitting will probably be necessary m June.
